Cool Green Gadgets

Becoming part of the Green community and doing something that will, in some small way, contribute to saving our environment is now easier than ever. As technology becomes more essential to our daily life, there are countless ways to green up your gadgetry. On an individual basis, gadgets typically do not take up a lot of energy. But when you start to add up the number of items you use everyday, on a regular basis, and then add on to that all the people who love to have every gadget known to man, then we start to get an impression of how going green in regards to technology alone, can make a serious impact in the future of our environment.

Every person you know probably has a mobile phone. My niece, who is nine, has a mobile phone. Add to that how many people you know that have purchased or upgraded their mobile phone in the last six months and it becomes easy to understand the amount of energy that is consumed by recharging the one tool that you cannot seem to live without. There are alternative ways to charge your cell phone! Solar Cell Phone Chargers are reliable, efficient and use natural energy. Depending on the brand or model, some of these chargers are small enough to fit inside your pocket. When there is no possible source of electricity or you find yourself somewhere where you are unable to plug in, having a solar powered alternative means you can charge your device anywhere.

Powering or charging your cell phone using solar energy is just the tip of the iceberg. Another cool gadget gaining popularity is the solar power mat. This green gadget can charge multiple devices simultaneously. Just imagine being able to eliminate the huge tangled mess of cords under your desk, whether at home or at the office! Solar Power Mats are generally inexpensive, depending on the brand and size. Not only does the power mat rid you of unsightly cords and power strips everywhere, you should never have to worry about forgetting your device’s power cord!

If the power mat is not big enough for you solar energy needs, consider the Orange Solar Tent that was debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show 2010. Any camping enthusiast will appreciate the ease of navigating camp after sunset as the four-man tent provides subtle evening lighting and much more. The solar panels store enough energy during the day to power all of your electronic devices. The tent is perfect for campers arriving to their destinations by car, but for the hiking backpacker, the little home-away-from-home is much too heavy while searching for the elusive campground.

As technology progresses so will the need to continue to find alternative ways to power our gadgets. If every person who owned a cell phone charged them using solar energy just think what would occur in relationship to reducing our carbon footprint! As we continue to be amazed with the next wave of new technology, keeping it green will benefit us all!
