Don’t be Too Quick to Judge!
On any given day, a walk to work in downtown Halifax, NS comprises of at least 3 people asking you for money. I've worked in the downtown core for years, directly off Spring Garden Road, and if I gave a loonie for every time someone asked me for change, I'd be out there asking for money myself!
I’m from a small town, so before city life took over me, I’d be the first person to offer up a couple bucks to help someone out. That was until the continuous request for change from the same people day in and day out turned me into this numb, straight faced soul, who now keeps her eyes straight ahead when walking down a main street.
Leaving work the other day, I saw a gentleman in my peripheral vision walking towards me carrying flowers. I heard in the background "Excuse me?” but didn’t bother to turn assuming he was going to ask me for money. Then I heard it again- but louder: "Excuse me? Can I ask you something?” Internally, I did a bit of a "here we go!" huff, and was prepared to give my "no sorry, I don't have any change" speech, when the gentleman held out a semi broken rose and said "I know this rose is broken, but it's still beautiful, so I don't want to throw it away. Will you have it?".
Although the gentleman was unaware of my initial negative thoughts, I knew what I was originally thinking and the guilt was so overwhelming I didn’t feel I deserved his kind gesture, but accepted on the basis that it would have been more rude not to.
I took more than a broken rose from the situation; the gentleman’s kindness put me right back into “small town” mode where I used to take the time to stop and listen to people. Perhaps your situation will be different- you may not be offered a pretty broken flower- but maybe they want directions or have something important to say! Don’t be too quick to judge- maybe someone is trying to reach out and make your day!

Americans Tops List Of Lookers
Americans are the most attractive people in the world, claims a new survey.
According to an online survey by OnePoll.com, men and women in the US outshine their counterparts across the globe by taking top spot on the list.
Brazil, who is famed for their curvaceous dark-haired women, came in second.
Five European countries made the list, with Spain leading the pack at number three. The country is closely followed by Italy in fifth position, Sweden at number six, England at seven and France at nine.
The survey found Australia in fourth position and India at number eight. India has yielded five Miss Worlds, a record which ties it with Venezuela, which is conspicuously missing from OnePoll.com's list.
The USA's last win was 20 years ago in 1990. France and Brazil have only produced one winner each – in over three decades.
Other countries that made the list included Mexico, Portugal, Wales, Russia, Japan, Ireland, Argentina, Scotland, Germany and the Netherlands.
In a typically self-deprecating manner, a British spokesperson for OnePoll.com said, "America has got a lot on offer and boasts some of the sexiest people on the planet.
"The likes of Jessica Alba, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt all help America's image as a hot bed of good looking people.
"But with a population of more than 300 million, they do have an unfair advantage. England's talent only got them into seventh place and despite Gerard Butler waving the flag for Scotland — they only just beat the Germans.
"But in fairness, when you think of good looking countries, Sweden, Italy, France and Brazil talent all spring to mind before us lazy, pale Brits."

Resolutions That Celebrities Should Make in 2010
What Celebrities Should Make Resolutions in 2010
We all make resolutions for the new year, but do you ever wish you could tell someone what you think their resolutions out to be? Do they have some trait that drives you crazy, and you'd love to see them try and correct it? Even if we can't say things like that to our friends, we CAN give celebrities a list of changes we'd like to see them make this New Year.
Female Celebrity Resolutions
Instead of making a promise to lose more weight, there are a few female celebrities that should actually gain a little bit of weight! Why not put down the caffeine loaded coffee, and grab a sandwich? I'm looking at you, Angelina! Texting while driving may be another resolution that needs to be made! Each year it seems that we see a celebrity like Lindsay Lohan getting into another fender bender, with phone in hand! Ladies in Hollywood might also want to try and break that plastic surgery addiction. Everyone from Janet Jackson to Donatella Versace has had 'work done'. Girls today are actually trying to go for a more natural look and it's a shame that people can't love the person they are.
We're not ignoring the reality TV celebrities, either. Pretty much all reality TV divas should resolve to take therapy sessions at least once a week, and maybe more if they're appearing on MTV.
Male Celeb Resolutions
The divorce and break-up rate continues to rise in Hollywood, and we have to wonder what male celebs are doing? There have been several cheating scandals over the recent years, as well as some shocking break-ups. Perhaps a few resolutions need to be made by some of the leading men in Hollywood in terms of staying with the same woman for more than a year or two. Even the reality celebs from the dating reality shows need to give it a rest! Jude Law is just one offender on this list. Tiger Woods needs to watch out, too.
Guys need to stay out of rehab as well. We have seen a few deaths due to overdoses, and a few surprising rehab check ins this year. We do know that most celebrities love to party, yet we still seem to see the same start actors going in and out of the revolving doors of rehab. Robert Downey Jr., are you listening? While there will always be celebrity gossip, over the year 2010 we will probably see no shortage of drunk videos, scandals on the covers of tabloids, and actresses who are withering away. Of course, we can always look at celebrities, and simply use them as a tool for what not to do in life. Think about celebrity resolutions as the new year approaches and pick some resolutions that you might like to make for yourself. Any form of self improvement over the next year can help keep you from being like the people on this list.
While many stars use their fame to help others, their flaws are magnified because they're in the public eye. Some celebrities act out because they know they'll get away with it. We definitely don't condone that kind of behavior!

Will Brad and Angelina Divorce
Brad and Angelina Are Not Divorcing
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie plan to sue the UK's News of the World tabloid over a story suggesting the couple are on the verge of a divorce.
The story caused shockwaves among celebrity news sites and gossip columns across the world, causing the couple to make a very public show of affection at Sunday's Superbowl match.
On January 24th, the downmarket newspaper reported that the couple had been to see a divorce lawyer and dividing their considerable assets, valued at around £200 million.
It was even reported they had arranged shared custody for their six children, three of whom are adopted.
Keith Schilling, lawyer to the celebrity pair, said that Pitt and Jolie were only going ahead with legal action after the newspaper failed to issue a printed apology for the story.
A statement released by Schilling Lawyers also included comment denying contact with the couple from the divorce lawyer identified by some publications.
The couple appeared at the match, out of support for the New Orleans' Saints. Jolie and Pitt own a $3.5 million home in the city and are known for their involvement in post-Hurricane Katrina regeneration projects.
It is their first public entrance to an event together in an over a month, though they appeared at the Directors Guild of America awards last month.
However, the divorce rumors may have been fueled by the fact that they arrived separately and refused to be photographed together at the ceremony.

Clint Eastwood – America’s Favorite Actor
Clint Eastwood Named as America's Favorite Actor
Clint Eastwood has beaten off strong competition from a host of A-listers to be named America's favorite movie star.
The actor, who has won five Oscars so far in his career, topped the annual Harris poll, ending Denzel Washington's three-year run in the number one position.
Other big-names making up the top ten include Johnny Depp, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks, George Clooney and John Wayne.
Meanwhile, Sandra Bullock was the highest-polling female actor, coming fourth overall, while Julia Roberts and Meryl Streep also sneaked into the top ten.
However, this latest poll also found that Harrison Ford, Will Smith or Angelina Jolie don't boast the enduring appeal of John Wayne.
While the three Hollywood stars dropped out of the top ten on the back of relatively quiet years in terms of movie production, the Duke kept up his record of appearing in every single list since Harris started polling American movie-goers back in 1994.
Eastwood, who is 79, enjoyed his most recent Oscars success 2005, when he took home the Best Picture and Best Director awards for Million Dollar Baby. Read More»
US Women More Stylish Then Their British Counterparts
Are US Women More Stylish Then Their British Counterparts?
US celebrities including Hollywood leading ladies are more stylish than their British counterparts, according to one fashion expert.
Liazanne Harris, fashion director at British fashion publication Stylist, said beauties like Tomb Raider actress Angelina Jolie and Friends star Jennifer Aniston are leaving British women in the shade.
The fashionista claimed women in the UK sometimes go too far in order to try and look good.
According to Ms Harris, English girls can't decide whether to dress up or dress down.
"I think that the English can go a bit overboard – they either overdo it or completely under do it," she said.
The guru explained that the hot look for the new season is in keeping with what US women do best.
"That sort of simple sophistication is very American and it is one of the trends for spring/summer, that American preppy sports feel. It is very wearable," she added.
However, not all UK actresses were said to be unfashionable; Ms Harris singled out Helen Mirren, star of The Queen, as an excellent style role model.
