Women Warned that Nutrition Can ‘Dramatically Affect Fertility’
Women looking to conceive over the festive period have been advised to cut out sugary snacks and stick to a healthy eating regime.
First response, a manufacturer of pregnancy and ovulation tests, has warned that food intake can have a large bearing on woman’s ability to conceive.
Yvonne Bishop-Weston, a nutritionist for the firm, said: “The problem is that the food we eat may be so short of important nutrients as our soils are increasingly depleted and food is so highly processed. When a grain is processed into white flour for instance more than 90 per cent of essential nutrients can be lost.”
Ms Bishop-Weston explained that the body needs to be reassured that it is receiving the necessary amount of nutrients during labour.
The body will store the nutrients to ensure it can cope with the rigours of nine months hard labour, she added.
Ms Bishop-Weston urged women to make sure they keep to a varied diet, avoiding caffeine, alcohol and processed fats, to increase their chances of having a baby.
